African-Americans after Reconstruction

Essential Question:
 1. List ALL the methods Southern states tried to limit the power of African-Americans.
-Southern states made laws restricting African-American's civil rights.
-Southern states limited African-American's by limiting their votes. The way Southern states limited African-American votes were by giving them a literacy (reading) test. It was unfair because they were asked more questions and/or given a test in a foreign language.
-Southern states created a poll tax which was an annual tax that had to be paid before being able to vote to limit the power of African-Americans.
-Southern states added the Grandfather clause which stated that whether you failed the literacy test or could not pay the poll tax and your grandfather or father was able to vote before January 1, 2867 you would as be able to vote.
-Southern states created laws that segregated Blacks and Whites called the Jim Crow laws.
-Southern states made it okay for black and Whites to be separate as long as it was equal. Although, it was not equal because the Whites had better quality faculties.

3. OUTPUT: Blog post with 2 images.
a. How is racism today different than racism practiced immediately after Reconstruction?
-Racism today is different than racism before because there is more separation in classrooms, homes, and life styles. Racism today is also said more in-between the lines rather than in your face obvious. The standards for races has changed from the past till today.

b. 4-5 sentences paragraph, using examples from reading.
-In the past Southerns states limited African-American's rights in many ways. They created unfair limits that went against African-American's civil rights. They assigned unequal laws such as the poll tax, Grandfather clause, and Jim Crow laws. Blacks and Whites were suppose to be equal but Southern states did it to the very minimum. The literacy test were racist to the African-Americans because they were asked more questions and even at times given to them in a language that were not theirs, therefore they would not be able to vote.
