a. How is racism today different than racism practiced immediately after Reconstruction?
-Racism today is different than racism before because there is more separation in classrooms, homes, and life styles. Racism today is also said more in-between the lines rather than in your face obvious. The standards for races has changed from the past till today.

b. 4-5 sentences paragraph, using examples from reading.
-In the past Southerns states limited African-American's rights in many ways. They created unfair limits that went against African-American's civil rights. They assigned unequal laws such as the poll tax, Grandfather clause, and Jim Crow laws. Blacks and Whites were suppose to be equal but Southern states did it to the very minimum. The literacy test were racist to the African-Americans because they were asked more questions and even at times given to them in a language that were not theirs, therefore they would not be able to vote.

Mid-Term Exam Reflection

1. My Mid-Term score was 20/25 which is an 80%. An 80% is a "B".
2. The questions I had incorrect were: 6, 12, 14, 16, and 25. The reason I had number 6 incorrect was because i was too quick to answer and didn't go though each answer choice carefully. For number 12 i knew the answer but i didn't carefully read/ didn't repeatedly read the answer choices. For number 14 i was too quick to answer because i should have read the questions until i was confident in my choice. For number 16 i felt like i didn't have enough information to answer or i didn't review/ study that type of question enough. Lastly, for number 25 i didn't see the answer which meant i didn't look though the questions accurately.
3. As a test taker i learned that i need to read though questions carefully. Also, i need to put the answer i feel more confident in vs. second guessing myself. To improve my scores i learned that i need to carefully go through the test and have confidence in myself.

-From my years as a student the effectiveness of education has changed since the 1900's. There are different standards, ways of discipline, and most importantly education has grew into every culture.

Song/Rap/Rhyming Poem:
Effectiveness, Discipline, Cruel.
Hurt, Tears, Run.
Unequal, Unfair, Racist.
Horrible, Bad, Done.
Education, 1900's.

Unequal Opportunity. (http://whiteseducatingwhites.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/cropped-gp.png)

Four Passages, keywords or key ideas from the text:
1)"African Americans were mostly excluded from public secondary education." Pg. 284 (1)

2)"Unlike African Americas, immigrants were encouraged to go to school." Pg. 284 (2)

3)"The pattern in public education in this era was one of growth, opportunity differed sharply for white and black students." Pg. 283 (4)

4)"Strict rules and physical punishment made many students miserable." Pg. 283 (1)

How the rhyme relates to the essential question:
-My rhyme relates to the essential question because it reveals that the way education was ran during the 1900's. Education in the 1900's was much different than today because they were mistreated and education was held to a different level. Today people are more respectful of those who reach for education and give them a fair share to reach their hopes and dreams.

The Meat Inspection Act

After the Meat Inspection Act meat was packaged healthier and people would now feel safer about the meat they were eating. (http://images.wisegeek.com/meat-being-packaged-at-a-processing-plant.jpg)

Before the Meat Inspection Act people were receiving unhealthy meat packages. (https://www.msu.edu/~elenbaa6/webquest/images/meat%20industry2.jpg)

The book, The Jungle affected Americans thoughts on the way meat was produced because it revealed the sickening conditions of the meat packing industry. The way meat was packed was full of germs and it was unhealthy for people to eat. The Meat Inspection Act provided cleanliness requirements for meat packers and created the program of federal meat inspection. The Meat Inspection Act was a positive change for the people because it ensured that the meat they were eating were killed, cut, and packed in a sanitize condition.

Upton Sinclair was a progressive because he was a person spreading new ideas that are beneficial to society. If Upton Sinclair did not write the book, The Jungle the world would have never been exposed to all the unhealthy ways the meat they were eating were packaged. Upton Sinclair wanted a change for the better, with the Meat Inspection Act people would now not have to worry about the way there meat was packed because there would be an inspection to ensure the healthy conditions of there meat packaging.
